The FairTax Book: Saying Goodbye to the Income Tax and the IRS
by Neal Boortz, John Linder
This was a great but frustrating read. I was familiar with the Fair Tax but this explained the idea in detail and also provided a history of the income tax system. It was so frustrating reading that part and how the government just keeps taking more and more of our money.
I wish more people would look into this because I think most Americans would prefer this system - a consumption tax instead of an income tax - but there is no way politicians will ever go for it. They would lose too much power.
The only part of the plan I'm not sure about is the idea of the prebates. I think just exempting food and real estate is fine. Yes the rich might abuse that but they would be less able to abuse that then they do the income tax currently.
It would be so wonderful to actually get to take home all of my money instead of having the government confiscate it every day. I could reduce my tax burden by spending less and saving more. Maybe some day.
