i really wanted to like this one as i adored If We Were Villains. i started with the ebook but couldn’t get into the writing, so i switched to the audiobook. that worked for a while, but even then, it just felt boring. i made it to nearly the halfway point while rearranging my bookshelves, waiting for something to click, but…nothing interesting really happened.
i gave it another shot with the ebook version, thinking maybe the format was the problem. three more chapters in, and i was still just…unmoved. maybe i’m simply not into rock ’n’ roll stories. or maybe the author's style just doesn’t grab me anymore, especially since i already felt let down by Graveyard Shift last year.
either way, this one just didn’t work for me. drenched in guitars and road-trip grit, sure, but for me, it lacked the spark that could have made it all worth the ride.
