It’s hard for me to rate this book.
Concept? 5/5 the description had me hooked!
Actual story? 4/5 I ended up staying up late in order to find out how it ended, so it must have been good! it went on a bit too long though.
Writing? 2.5/5 I’ve only read one other Sager book, and i didn’t finish it. (Lock Every Door DNF because I couldn’t continue after one of the twists was revealed, but I liked it up until then). My thought is maybe this book category is a bit over saturated, so to stand out, one needs a really good plot twist! …or seven!! There were twists upon misdirections upon red herrings. While entertaining enough, it was just too much. For example theRicardo/Ricky/Patrick situation had me very confused, as it was intended to do. But the whole Patrick thing was whack. I hated that!
Ending???5/5!! It’s very rare in my experience the ending of one of these books is happy, so it gave me joy to know that Virginia went for 50 years powered by spite alone and then got to go travel the world like she always wanted. I could see how some may have differing opinions about this though.
