Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight

Did not finish book.
This book feels like it was written by someone who read about BDSM but has never actively (or at least safely) participated. Not only are the characters incredibly trope-y and flat, but there is... no plot. And honestly, that would be fine, if the smut was decent, except it’s not. It’s non-consensual and full of actual violence. I mean, Diesel gets turned on from torturing (I’m talking cutting off nipples and burning flesh torturing) a guy. And you mean to tell me this super badass “I’m not like other girls” girl is totally fine a) watching that b) semi-participating in that and c) smelling burning flesh and hair and not immediately wanting to gag? Come on.

The Stockholm Syndrome is strong with this one. The emotional manipulation is off the charts (can we talk about how The Vipers both view Roxy as an object to be kept and used sexually but also try to blame HER for whenever they get jealous and literally kill people for barely touching her?).

It would be different if this was a scene that had been discussed with safewords and hard limits, but no. I’m gonna need a word with BookTok after this one.
