Yours Cruelly, Elvira: Memoirs of the Mistress of the Dark by Cassandra Peterson

5.0

I don’t read many celebrity memoirs, but Elvira is more of a counterculture cult icon than your typical movie star! And boy, does she *dish*! Tom Jones—OMG! Wilt Chamberlain—super yuck! Frank Sinatra—yuck! Eric Burden—huge yuck! Frank Zappa—wise. Elvis—naughty and also wise. I mean, there’s everything in here from ghost stories to top less pictures, what more could a person ask for?

I am so glad to see Elvira/Cassandra Peterson in the limelight again, because she has had an amazing career journey, had some wild adventures, and she also is a longtime activist for animal rights as well as LGBT+ rights and in the fight against AIDS/HIV. This well-written, humor and surprise-filled autobiography feels honest in its shocking confessions and oh-so-charming. I give it two thumbs (or should I say boobs?) up!
