One of the most interesting 19th C. Books I have read in some time! The devil, doppelgängers, murder, early psychology, frame narratives, and more. It has its own eccentricities, as many books of the time do, but on the whole it is fascinating. In this I see the threads that would create fight club, Mister b. Gone, Jekyll and Hyde etc. I can’t believe I only heard about it recently.
