I love that there isn't a huge time jump between these books, and we go almost straight back to where the previous one ended. The prologue in this installment was really interesting, and we do have multiple POVs throughout again too.
My heart absolute breaks for Tolek every time there's mention of his childhood and upbringing. He is quite literally the sweetest man to ever exist, he didn't deserve to be treated the way his family treated him growing up. But his relationship with Ophelia is EVERYTHING. I love them together, they're literally the perfect pair. I was worried him being in a coma was going to be dragged out for most of the book, so I'm glad we only had to wait a few chapters for him to wake up and reunite with Ophelia. I understand why Ophelia wants to take things slow with him, and the slow burn is sizzling, but I'm not a very patient person. BRING ME THE SMUT 🫡🤭. The spicy scenes were providing though, so it was definitely worth the wait.
Malakai just really annoys me for some reason. He's very much the Chaol Westfall of this series for me (I despise Chaol btw), but his relationships with Mila and Barrett make him slightly more tolerable. I enjoyed seeing Mila help him deal with his PTSD from his torture, it's nice for him to have somebody to confide in fully. He always seemed to have a chapter straight after Ophelia & Tolek had a moment together, and I was just not interested lol. Hoping his character becomes a bit more interesting for me in the next installments.
I'm also enjoying seeing all of the other romantic storylines and relationships developing between other characters. There was another big battle at the end of this one, the action scenes so far in this series have all been phenomenal. And of course another big cliffhanger to end the book. With the "villain" now dead, I have a feeling the fight will be against the angels from now on. Can't wait to see if I'm right.
Overall this was another perfect installment to the series. The pacing in these books is always great, and I'm not finding myself getting bored or uninterested in what's going on. I've been hooked from the very start up until now, and hopefully the next couple of books continue on the same trajectory
