Departed Whispers

I'm not the biggest fan of paranormal romance but Departed Whispers captured my attention from its very first pages thanks to the wonderful skill of [a:Jessalyn Thorn|40701858|Jessalyn Thorn|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]to write twisted, dark stories with the perfect balance between sensuality and tenderness. Also, the plot of this book was totally shocking from beginning to end and it was amazing!
Emery is a witch who has faced rejection from her own family and coven, however she found a new family in Luther, Atticus & Kody: three human brothers who also have a complicated life and that accept her as she is, and this is one of the best things that this story has, because the relationship of these three began as a sincere and selfless friendship, they all share an enormous bond between them and that is so different, but just as important, with Emery, their story broke my heart at different times, but thir interactions were also a lot of fun to read and I was surprised to discover all their secrets.
These four characters immediately stole my heart: Emery is a girl with a strong, quirky personality who doesn't take crap from anyone, loves Luth, Atti & Kody madly and is willing to do everything to protect them, and Reaper's Hollow in the process, I loved her family story, which although it broke my heart a little, it was amazing to read, especially her attitude towards her magic, her family and the manipulation of covens towards witches like her, her friendship with Maude was always very funny, and the truth of this sarcastic ghost was also very shocking, plus the end that her character had, which was a bit bittersweet, but perfect for the story.
Luther is the eldest of the Alexander brothers, the protector of the boys and Emery so he has always carried the weight of that responsibility, Luth tries to keep them safe and united in a dark moment that Reaper's Hollow is at, and is in charge of bringing Emery back to their lives, something that doesn't put Atticus very happy at the beginning. I think he's the most mysterious of the three boys, a real grump who despises himself, loves music and was very close to fulfilling his dreams, Atti is my second favorite and one of the characters that surprised me the most with the twists that his personal plot took and the decisions that he make towards the end of the story, and also one that broke my heart the most when reading it. Obviously my favorite of the boys was Kodi, the youngest of the brothers and a boy whom Emery remembers as fragile, gentle and kind, and although as an adult he retains his good heart, intelligence and love for the books, he also has a new sensual and flirtatious side that she didn't expect, just like the rest of her brothers, Kodi also loves them unconditionally and has always felt something special for Emery. I loved reading all about him, his interactions with the others and how he was ALWAYS considered a little boy at all times much to his utter horror.
As I already mentioned Luther, Atticus & Kody all have a special and different bond with Emery and it's one of the things I liked the most, especially because being a why choose romance I always consider it important for the main character to have a different emotional relationship with each of the boys, something that was very evident with these characters, and although the hot moments had some situations that weren't my favorite, I was able to enjoy the reunion between Emery and his boys, the way in which they got to know each other again, forgive each other and support each other as at the beginning of their friendship and how those feelings evolved until they reached each of their love stories, something that Jesalyn develops excellently in her books and for that she has become one of my favorite authors.
