Emberline’s family is hit with tragedy and she has to train to take over the family jewelry business. She learns from her jeweller uncle who is super mysterious but helpful and a reliable mentor for her. Then, he disappears and she has to fill his role and be the Jeweller to the Blessed—essentially a royal jeweller—and she now has to serve those she’s tried to avoid her whole life. She works in service to the king, and is even given protection. Insert our MMC, Hart—a swoony warrior—who she has great banter with, but also she ends up craving his touch. AND that’s just it, she has to hide her secret— that she isn’t affected by the Blessed’s magic, touch is power, and she’s immune to it.
So we have resilient and and sort of stoic and conservative FMC. The touch her and die heartthrob protector, and a missing uncle—
that she sets off to find.
The magic system was so different in this book. The magic was dependent on the jewels of rings—almost like mood rings—-and was driven from emotions. Super neat and different, and it felt so brand new and fresh.
I was a little distracted by the world building, and it drove me mad that the FMC was in the dark about so much about herself. There are very intricate descriptions of the Gods in play in this book as well, and overall it was a pretty good fantasy read. I loved the magic system, political tension, power struggles and our fav—roooooomance. The fantasy elements were all giving fantasy vibes.
Oh—- let us not forget!!!!!!—-The plot twist at the end had me like 🤯🤯🤯
