Happiness for Beginners by Carole Matthews

adventurous dark emotional funny hopeful relaxing sad tense

2.0

There is some moderate angst when she's pushed out of her comfort zone. There are some tense and sad moments
a sick chicken, the risk of getting evicted as the land has been bought for a train line

There is a lot of sulking and rudeness from the son throughout and more drama half way through. I can't believe she slept with the boy's father when she's supposed to stay impartial and have the boy's best interests at heart, not to mention that he already has a girlfriend. Shelby is really selfish leaving his son behind during a difficult time which they fight about . I don't know why he has his son go to therapy but he won't go himself because his wife died. There is so much insomnia with the main character. There isn't any gradual character development, most of her courage comes from alcohol. The first third of the story was relaxing, the rest had too much drama. The title is misleading.
