I found Hijab Butch Blues to be a touching, honest and very personal telling of Lamya’s life as a queer Muslim. It’s an underexposed POV. Her devout faith shows through and through which is really something I am not in touch with myself, or something i see in the people and literature that surround me. To me it offers a perspective I hadn’t much considered before. It’s confronted me with my own preconceived notions and assumptions about religion. Her progressive and intersectional views in combination with her diligent faith and study of the Quran are interesting, as are the surahs she shares and how they help her relate to her queerness. She offers ideas i hadn’t been exposed to at all, and showed me a different way of looking at it. Thank you, Lamya, for telling your story!
