A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

4.5 ⭐️

A Thousand Splendid Suns is Hosseini’s second book following the success of The Kite Runner. In his own words this is a mother/daughter story whereas The Kite Runner was a father/son story.

In this book we follow Mariam who is sent away from her home to marry a man named Rasheed. Nearly 2 decades following this we see Mariam develop a mother like bond for a young girl called Laila. When the Taliban take over, everything changes and life becomes a struggle against daily brutality.

Simply breathtaking in its prose, in its plot, and in the heart wrenching moments throughout. Hosseini really captures the essence of how love can lead the most normal person to complete an act of heroism.

Could not recommend enough!
