Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn

3.0

I decided to read this out of curiosity, and because a friend moved out and gave me a bag of Star Wars novels. There are quite a few hokey moments that call back to the original films. Thrawn is a pretty good villain, although I wondered for more than half of the novel as to when they would specify that he is a Chiss. Maybe that race was a post-Heir creation? I honestly dont know, but theyre really cool if you play tabletop RP (Edge of the Empire). Overall, it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible.

My big complaint would be against creating creatures that block or shield from the Force. It was just ridiculous. Besides that, there were facets of Zahn's writing style that I found odd. For example, he would use "_____ said to the other" instead of saying a name or using a descriptor. I've never seen this style before.....and I read a fair lot of books from different genres.

I might continue the series, mostly because I have the trilogy on my shelf, but not right away. There's an existing pile of To Read waiting for me already.
