I guess if my only complaint is that it wasn’t long enough, that’s a pretty good sign for how I felt about the book, right? I didn’t quite know what to expect from this book, but it far exceeded any vague expectations that I had. I especially loved all the attention to detail with the cultural elements, from food to dress to every day life, in particular for the children of immigrants. And Nada and Baz’s story went so far beyond what I thought it was going to be after the first few chapters. I thought it was just going to be a straightforward enemies to lovers storyline, but this went so much deeper and was so beautiful and special and unique. I really couldn’t get enough of these characters. And I really appreciated how Nada’s journey wasn’t just about her romantic relationship, but finding her place with her professional life. It grounded the story that much more in reality and showed the importance of being your own person, outside of that relationship. This is how you do an Austen retelling right.
