This is a gorgeous novel. The writing sucked me in, and I felt like I was in my own little world when I read it. It did take me several days to read, but I didn't want it to end! Calpurnia Virginia Tate (aka Callie Vee) is a young girl growing up in Texas in 1899. She falls in love with science and Darwin's theories, yet her mother wants her to fit the expectations of a young woman. Callie's personality and relationship with her grandfather reminded me a bit of To Kill a Mockingbird. I highly recommend this Newbery Honor Book.
