This was like a hypnotic dumpster fire, trash but I just kept reading.
I almost DNFed several times in the beginning because of the info dumping and the cringeworthy inner monologue of the FMC, but some people I know well gave the book five stars so I kept pushing forward, and then I kept reading because I couldn’t look away even though I didn’t actually enjoy any of the characters.
I guess it’s similar to reality lifestyle shows where the people and their thoughts and actions are so out there that you just keep watching wondering what they’re going to say and do next.
I was surprised by the person that was threatening the FMC and who her parents turned out to be.
I didn’t find this to be a particularly spicy, dark, or romantic story.
The FMC’s inner monologue was sometimes amusing with her twisted combination of Gen X nihilism, Millennial ennui, and Gen Z slang. The Gen Z slang was what I found grating and cringeworthy (as mentioned previously), but I’m not Gen Z.
I might consider reading the next one when it comes out, if I remember. I borrowed this book through my local Library on the Libby app.
