This was such a let down…. After the ending of Gleam, and the strong plot point this book felt so long winded and unnecessary.
I’m 4 books into a 6 books series and the pacing of the whole series so far has been really off, it could’ve definitely been condensed into 2-3 books already.
I felt like this was frustrating, Auren was an annoying FMC and she was distrustful and stubborn but not in a cool character growth way, just in a way that wasn’t enjoyable to read… she had struggles but then managed to overcome them way too quickly??
Honestly this it probably what people mean by a book being character-focused vs plot-focused, this series is very character focused and it felt like the plot didn’t develop for 70% of this book.
I liked that we finally got some action towards the end of the book, but I’m not the biggest fan of where this storyline is going as it feels a bit haphazardly thrown together, like RK suddenly remembered all these other aspects she could include.
I will continue reading as I’ve already bought the books but I have a feeling book 3 will have been the peak for me sadly.
OH and it was waaaaaayy too spicy, unnecessarily so and I’m not enjoying the FMC audiobook narrator (but I do like the MMc C narrator heheh).
This book did have some good elements I liked learning about the character backgrounds, seeing the development and the family aspects, but my disappointment is overriding my opinion at this point sadly.
