Purr-fect Mating by Sheryl Winters

MINOR SPOILERS

The story starts off interestingly with the main character finding a wolf shifter being hunted. Fhina saves him and the rest is as the summary describes. We get glimpses that Wulfar is someone important, maybe an Alpha but the author never goes into that which I wish was explained.

I had a hard time deciding on how to review this story. It was entertaining and fun for sure. It was definitely a quick superficial read. My issues were that the characters don't grow or develop. They just deal with the situation. There are attempts to find more about their curses but the findings are usually hindered by magic which I enjoyed. I would have liked a little more explanation as to how the curse and magic inhibited them.

Overall, the writing is ok, nothing extremely special that stood out and the pacing is quick. I found there was a lot of telling in the story which I think could use some work. There are time skips as Fhina lives during her pregnancy. Also apparently Shifter pregnancies are much shorter than a human's but they are never explained. I don't mind too much but I just thought that was an interesting addition which helped speed the story up.

The climax was ok but somewhat predictable. I wasn't quite convinced on why Wulfar went for a run. I feel like maybe it would have been better to read from both of their point of views instead of solely Fhina's but I didn't mind too much.

I can't help but feel like the end wasn't quite the end of the story. It ended adequately but I know there could have been more to make it a complete ending.

I loved the whole concept of the story with shifters, witches, and magic. I would have liked to delve a bit more into the world and their culture. I felt that the story was too quick and I don't think I got into the mindset of the characters well enough to give it a higher rating but I still enjoyed it. The whole idea definitely intrigued me with the shifter world and I love anything with magic. If you like these types of stories then I would recommend you picking it up.
