The Forgotten Hours by Katrin Schumann

What a complete and utter snooze fest. There was nothing evocative about this novel. One that you will either skim read through to get to the end of because the middle bits doesn't add anything to the story, or you will just read very quickly not taking it all in.

The blurb and the start of the book basically sets out what happened. That Katie's father has been jailed for statutory rape. This leaves little mystery to what is happening, or letting you read the book and letting the story unfold. All the plot is quickly spelled out and the rest of the book you have to listen to Katie's internal dialogue and it adds nothing to the story.

Katie's blaming of Lulu without looking at all the facts when she was older was just shocking. I understand as a young teenager sticking your head in the sand, but once you've matured a bit you don't try and find out the truth for yourself?

Other elements of the book that just didn't sit well with me, when she is with Jack and she talks about bloated purity. The way she wrote about her physical relationship between Katie and Zev, just demeaned the relationship and I didn't understand why the author would do that. The way it jumped between past and present without it being clear where in the timeline you were. The way Katie thinks she is old and over the hill when she goes clubbing - she is 25?! The really awkward conversation between Katie and Lulu when they are adults.

This book is about a really serious subject and it's written in such a mundane way that it undermines the seriousness of the subject.
