To be totally honest, this was was...pretty boring. I'm never opposed to a slow burn, but wow this one was sloooooow. I kept waiting for something drastic to happen, but nothing ever really did. This falls more under the umbrella of thrillers that aren't really all that thrilling. While this type of book is great for someone who wants a thriller but doesn't want heavy amounts of violence, I've come to realize that slow burn thrillers aren't really what I'm looking for in the genre. Give me the gritty thrillers!
This book also has one of my least favorite tropes, which is "The Useless Boyfriend." Noah straight up didn't need to exist. His character did absolutely nothing for the story, and every time he showed up I found myself thinking "what was the point of that?"
I will say, I have to give credit to Hendricks and Pekkanen for making the voice of Dr. Shields so effective. Her perspective was so creepy and chilling, and and I felt my skin crawling every time she started narrating. A+ for the spooky vibes.
