The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas

I'm so sorry, but this book was just excruciating to read. I made it 25% before I gave up.
The concept of Mexican mythology meets The Hunger Games was intriguing, but unfortunately, that was the only thing I enjoyed about The Sunbearer Trials. It was written in an aggressively juvenile manner, despite there being cursing on every page (there was another review on this book that said it read like a middle schooler that just learned to swear, and I wholeheartedly agree). The infodumping was painful and took me straight out of the story.
SpoilerAnd I get that the author is queer and it's an LGBTQ+ positive world, but the narrator is constantly. Reminding. You. That the main character is trans and it's so aggravating. I hate when authors feel the need to TELL, not show, when it comes to diversity. No hate, but there's nothing "effortless" about the way LGBTQ+ characters in this book were portrayed. Sincerely, a picky reader.
