Once the daughter of a wealthy and prosperous family, Li Lan now lives a poor and wanting life. Many years ago her mother passed away from smallpox and her father was left forever scarred, not just physically but emotionally. When bankruptcy is her father’s only option, the debt collector offers an alternative in the form of marriage. Though the proposal comes with wealth and privilege for all, it also has its disadvantages, for the bridegroom is not of the living and Li Lan would become his ghost bride.
An intriguing read from start to finish. Li Lan is a shy and beautiful young woman whose prospects are limited, however she’s not without spirit. When her health suffers, and she finds herself within the ghost world on the brink of death, she refuses to give up and embarks on a journey of self discovery. It’s a beautiful story of love, tradition, family, and the courage to survive. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend reading it!
