Men We Reaped by Jesmyn Ward

emotional reflective sad
I almost feel like I can't and shouldn't rate this book because it feels so deeply personal to the author. Ward recounts her life growing up in the South and also shares her experience losing five men she was close to in a very short amount of time. It's a book about a lot of things but namely it is an exploration of grief - her own and that of the community of people that experienced these losses.

The writing is gorgeous. It almost feels like you're reading a novel because Ward paints such a picture of her life and the lives of these five men. I've had several of her books on my TBR for many years now. And I feel like finally reading something by her is going to open the floodgates of me consuming her books and hopefully loving everything.

This was excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to any and everyone.
