Toms River: A Story of Science and Salvation
by Dan Fagin
This was a fascinating and horrifying read. Read much more like a mystery than a science tome though truth be told, I skimmed some of the really technical stuff.
I grew up in Toms River, in the neighborhood much of the book is about and went to the elementary school that abutted the chemical plant. The end result of the book is a deep cynicism about the integrity and compassion of the parties involved - the companies, the government agencies who were supposed to have oversight, and the government itself. and a whole lot of anger too.
