Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky

2.0

Whatever others have seen in Dostoevsky's work to make him such a well respected author, I just can't find. This is the 4th of his novels I've read (I bought several in a charity shop in one go - a mistake). At best I find his writing boring. At worst, it's bleak and depressing. His characters frustrate me and their passions confuse me. Occasionally (in this and in his other work) I stumbled across a paragraph that made me go 'Oh my god, this is it, the good bit!' but it was always short lived, and never worth the slog of the rest of the book.
