Grouch-ish by L.B. Dunbar

Do you just want a mature HEA couple for the holiday season? Then this is it. I already am a huge fan of this author, giving me characters that I can relate to. Those characters that come with not just a set of suitcases, but stockings of coal from those past relationships that even Scrooge can't be solely blamed for. This book was beautiful, with themes, for me, totally relatable and I loved it even more for that. Both Pear and Brock are grouches, and for very valid reasons. Both have been broken so deeply, that to protect themselves, they have massive, giant, reinforced walls of grumbles.
Brock finds himself on the wrong side of his Chief, and in an attempt for Brock to keep his firefighting job, he needs to join him on his retreat. The retreat being the 12 Days of Christmas (which starts Boxing Day). There is no choice, and Brock hates the whole idea already. He is a divorced father of two, after his wife cheated on him with his friend/colleague.
Pear, Chiefs daughter, has left her job, for reasons we find out, is headed to Dad's to start afresh and come clean. Throughout there is more tragedy that has fallen to this family, and hurt runs deep. Also, Pear is rebuilding broken confidence from a man who took issue with her physical appearance. This one I can so relate too.
Brock is late, and finds himself at the "mercy" of Pear, although from the moment they both lay eyes on each other, it awakens something, leaving them both unsure. Because of being late, Brock is stuck having a "retreat" at the Chiefs house, with daily tasks assigned by Pear. OMG each of these days is so beautiful, and the healing is both unexpected and exciting. When things take a different course I literally melt with Brock, there are just no words to describe our unbelievably delicious it is when is "golden retriever" side starts to stir. But will something Pear kept to herself going to ruin this? I could not get enough of these two, absolutely loved everything about this.
