Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio

okay wow. when i started this book i don’t know what i expected but it wasn’t this. i had only seen it be compared to dune, the name of the wind, and red rising. other than that, i went in completely blind.

i think that more than anything this was a huge introduction and prologue to the rest of the series. as such, it feels slow, and dense. that isn’t negative though. i wasn’t ever bored, which is insane to achieve in an over 700 page book where pretty much nothing happens. i will definitely continue and am excited to see where it goes. i do need a break though bc this was a lottttttt.

other than that, i just want to mention that the world building is done incredibly well, as is the characterisation of hadrian. we do spend like 800 pages with him, which helps, but the story lets us see him in all his early stages of life/development and so we are really just learning how he comes to be the man he introduces himself as at the beginning.

excited for the rest of the series!
