3.5 rounded up. Super interesting magic systems; well plotted; fun characters (though some important ones felt stitched together by the author’s needs.) The world building in this book is excellent. Certain elements of the resolution were a little ridiculous but it didn’t feel as disqualifying when considering that it’s the start of a series. Enjoyable read all around
