Another Appalachia: Coming Up Queer and Indian in a Mountain Place by Neema Avashia

5.0

This was such a great collection of essays, and many of the points Neema Avashia makes throughout are so important to remember, especially as America becomes more and more politically polarized. Considering Appalachia, other rural America, and red states as a monolith with no hope isn’t fair to all of the minority and queer people there who are growing up in it, or who are staying back trying to change it. Her internal struggles resonated with me personally as someone with family from Appalachia despite having lived my life outside of it.
