Genre: New Adult. College Romance.

I am so glad Cambria Hebert went back to writing new adult, college romances. Her #Hashtag series (which falls within this genre) made me fall hopelessly in love with her stories and since reading it, I have become devoted to all of her work. So when she announced her next series (this one) I was elated! Butterfly is the first book in a series of standalones. It features a college student and a famous (ex) pop star and their fight for love.

One of the things that really struck me while reading is the books lack of drama. Whenever one thinks of a famous artist and "regular" person falling in love, they immediately think of all the crap that comes with the fame- the fandom, the inability to do normal everyday things like walk into a coffee shop without being noticed, and the constant need for bodyguards. This is not the case with Butterfly though. In fact, none of this stuff really pops up at all, which for me, made the book all the more unique. Now, don't take this as the author just leaving all of this out because it's truly not like that. You see, our hero Ten, who happens to be the pop star, is in hiding at Baylock college after some stunts he pulled at one of his concerts. He mostly wears a hat and stays out of the public eye (which is why he isn't noticed) and the girl who decides to befriend has no idea who he is. Some may wonder why or how Violet doesn't recognize him, but well just say that she is introverted and less inclined to listen to his type of music- being unable to recognize him wouldn't be so hard because of all this.

With that, Cambria does a wonderful job at bringing her characters to life within this novel and I truly feel like I connected with them on a deep level. At first, I wasn't thrilled with the idea of lying (you know, Violet didn't realize who Ten really was and he never told her), but I can understand why deep down he couldn't do it. Other than that, I thought the book was great. It's nice to see Cambria go back to her roots with NA romance, and I am so excited to see which characters she writes about next.
