The Wild Truth: A Memoir
by Carine McCandless
emotional
reflective
sad
tense
medium-paced
50-state challenge: Virginia
The writing style in this book is pretty pedestrian, which I've come to expect in these books from people who never planned to be writers but found a demand for their stories anyway. As far as I can tell Carine authored the book herself, which is impressive. It is a compelling story, certainly worthy of its own book, and one that could be of interest to anyone who grew up with toxic parents, not just those who are interested in the Chris McCandless story. It definitely gives more context to Into the Wild and several scenes are shocking enough to remind me that we can never assume we know "the whole story" just because we've read the whole book.
