This wasn't going to be a 4 star read until the end. It's a slow, tough start—trying to figure out the rules of the game, what's happening to the narrator and everyone around them. I can't say I ever fully understood, but by the last quarter, I was hooked. This is probably a story that would be easier to follow as a movie or tv show, since it was pretty difficult to visualize all the different characters and their connections to each other. Also, it's interesting that a major theme was redemption because I did not find any characters particularly redeemable. It took me a long time to warm up to the narrator, so fair warning, these people aren't likable!
Graphic: Murder, Suicide, and Fatphobia
Moderate: Blood, Child death, Injury/Injury detail, and Violence
