One of Us Is Next
by Karen M. McManus
Its been over a year since Simon died, and for the most part, everyone has moved on with their lives. Until a copycat decides to play a game of truth or dare at Bayview. What starts off as mean game, soon turns dangerous, another death, more secrets; someone will go to any extent to be the next Simon.
I waited for this book for the longest time, I pre-ordered it months before and it was a solid sequel to One Of Us Is Lying. I wasn’t as invested in the characters this time around, they were likeable enough, but perhaps a bit dull in comparison to the original Bayview four and I would have liked them to be more interesting/less stereotypical. The twist at the end wasn’t expected, in fact the very end of the book made me scream “WHAT?” out loud to my cat; perhaps not *as* perfect an ending as One Of Us Is Lying, but more than satisfying. I can’t help but compare the two books, One Of Us Is Next felt slower-paced, there weren’t as much going on and you could focus clearly on the main story without being sidelined with more questions. The writing style of Karen McManus makes it easy to binge read her books and get fully emerged into the story, and its always a story you won’t forget quickly. Would recommend.
