Look.. it’s for some people. It wasn’t for me.
I read it because I hoped beyond hope that she could salvage it in the final book and I wouldn’t hate the series as a whole. She didn’t.
SPOILERS:
It’s annoyingly predictable.
You might as well start at Ch 50 cause everything before that is just a different arrangement of the words “I want him/her but I can’t have them.” while they are still blatantly sneaking around, people know, and NO ONE cares.
It’s a great model on affairs and drinking making life tolerable.
For some reason the audio book randomly decide to used western and redneck accents throughout, throwing the fantasy vibes off.
It FEELS like teen angst.
It’s based on my two least favorite tropes: miscommunication and love triangle with brothers.
This book literally wouldn’t have existed with ONE conversation.
To no one’s surprise and everyone’s disappointment, we’re back for trials round 2 minus any actual… trial?
Trial 1: she manages to find the right cave that people have been hunting for for YEARS on accident within 18 hours.
Trial 2: she survived a sea storm and poked a monster in the eye. Which was apparently something only she as an ordinary could do after all the elites failed with magic.
Trial 3: feels like a fever dream cause nothing is real.
The ending ended. All the secrets are kept. Nothing is resolved. But hey, they end up together. Somehow managing a thruple with a dead guy…
