Crime and Punishment
by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Second reading: Dead serious. This has never reminded me more of Death Note than now. Incredible text, grounded in so much detective and crime fiction we have now!
I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected! Not only was the writing rich and oddly modern, this novel is complex, and dark, and hopeful, and layered in ways I didn't expect. An amazing character study on the faults of man, and the beautiful, evil things we are capable of.
