 Preacher is a classic amongst the DC Vertigo line.  It leans heavily on the violent and prurient side, but the art is phenomenal.  The dialog is richly peppered with cursing, is also well-written.  This volume tells you how the whole shebang got started, so it's essential reading if you're interested in the series.  I won't tell you to go run and get it, but if you have the stomach for it and a little grit in your teeth, this is probably for you.
