this is easily one of the best bat-stories i've read up until this point. i absolutely love the characterizations of bruce, damian and alfred depicted in this. the characters were the heart of this story & as the afterword says, the villain is just the b-plot

the parallels of death in the family and born to kill in the last couple issues are beautiful. we see a desperate bruce running against time to save a son, when he's experienced a near identical situation. doubting himself and believing it's going to happen again. snapping even when he does make it in time because he's experienced it going the other way. followed by the panels of an emotionally broken batman almost breaking his moral code, but remembering why he does it all when he sees a scared, hurt little boy.

this is my batman, this is what i love about the bat family. i've been saving this run because i had a feeling i'd enjoy it & it's blown past my expectations
