Us Against You by Fredrik Backman
5.0

The second installment in the Beartown series does not disappoint. Again the author has done a magnificent job of crafting real characters, real situations, real emotions in a way that can be understood and appreciated by all.
Backman doesn't shy away from difficult situations, off-putting individuals, uncomfortable topics. He has a gift for presenting things in a way that allows the reader to sympathize and identify with and condemn characters for the very flaws, impulses, quirks, and priorities that make them human.
Thankfully his brutality has a soft edge so we do not end up broken and embittered at the end of his stories. He allows us the glimmer of hope for the better days, redemption, and improved opportunities that keep humans waking up each day and starting anew.
I completely appreciate his work. Thank you.
