Thank you @WednesdayBooks for the advance review copy!
I didn't know what to expect from Fable going in except that it's a sea book. I quickly picked up some DotPK vibes, which is cool because I loved that duology. Fable was abandoned on Jeval four years ago after the death of her mother. She finally is able to escape with the help of the Marigold crew, a ship of traders with more secrets than even maybe herself. Freedom does not bring what she expects, and Fable has to forge her own path in the world.
This book rapidly sucked me in and I devoured over half of it in one night. Fable is determined and quickly adapts to new situations. West is enigmatic and a secret softie. The whole crew of the Marigold are endearing in their own ways, especially Willa.
Fable's relationship with her father is complicated, to say the least. I kept expecting a deeper secret to be revealed that would explain a bit more. I have a feeling (especially with that ending, what the heck!!) that book two will satisfy that itch.
I really enjoyed this book and it is a fast read! Hopefully Namesake gets here soon....
