The book is structured as a collection of short stories with an overarching one. The stories deal with the relationship between humans and technology/AI in one way or another.
The author has already written most of these stories independently at different times (Didn’t know this when I picked the book). Some date back to late 80s. But, the two long and, you could say the main stories, along with the one tying everything together were new.
Like all collections, they vary in quality. However, they are all kind of middle of the road. Nothing bad, but nothing great either.
What has also struck me is how “basic” they are. Sometimes the dialogues reads like an article. I didn’t get anything artistic or thought provoking from them apart from the main story involving a potential evolution of AI.
But, it wasn’t all bad. There were some good spots scattered in the book. There were some beautiful passages as well.
So, I would say it is a decent book, but I doubt it is for seasoned Sci-fi readers.
