Chosen Ones
by Veronica Roth
I got this book simply because I LOVED Divergent as a kid, and I just had to read Veronica Roth's adult debut! I will say that one of the only drawbacks to this book is that it still read like a YA book most of the time. The characters were in their late 20s/early 30s but still felt like characters who were in their early 20s or even younger.
With that aside, I really loved this book! Sloane was such a great character. She was strong, angry, unpredictable and didn't want to be a hero, but she WAS and she was real and honest every step of the way. The other characters also had so much depth and there were times when I loved them and other times where they were very unlikeable which I loved. They were well-rounded characters and I loved reading about all of them.
The pacing was spot on for the majority of the book, but at times it slowed a bit and felt like it was dragging. The writing style is amazing, and the world building was incredibly done. I will say that I loved the addition of government documents, articles, references and other works of writing in between the chapters. It kept me engaged and really added to the world-building. I am excited to see where this series goes, because honestly I don't even have the slightest idea what could happen!
