3.5 but I round down because I’m a monster.
It’s admirable how ambitious Brandon Sanderson is with his writing, but he’s really all over the place. The three books in this trilogy do not make for a cohesive story. If I had to go back and begrudgingly reread this trilogy, I’m sure I could note every issue I had. Given I read the series for enjoyment, I did not write them down.
There are a few interesting plot lines he teases but none of them were followed through on. There’s teases of how Elend went from being a ruler of the people to a dictator but it never is satisfyingly addressed. There’s Sazed and how he is doubting his faith which we are told basic overviews to his research. Ambitious ideas that could easily fill an entire novel but Sanderson can’t remain committed to an idea long enough to make any sort of meaningful impact.
At least in this book he didn’t write “eye blink.”
