Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary

4.0

Rereading childhood favorites time! The book is dated in places (the school secretary is using a typewriter, for crying out loud) but I was surprised at how much this school story still reflects such an accurate picture of what elementary school was like, from the trauma of throwing up in front of your class and having to go to the office to the annoyance of being forced to play with younger, more annoying kids. We rode bikes up and down the street and had a boiled egg fad when I was in elementary school too, so maybe I see my own 8 year old self in Ramona, but overall I think this would still make a relatable read-aloud for modern kids.
