Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life
by Bryan Lee O’Malley
Well that was a quick read! I had this single Vol 1 or the entire Preacher series and I guess I chose poorly... Not sure what to read in the next few days while I wait for Vol 2-4 to arrive from Amazon (and Vol 5 isn't due till August with Vol 6 with no expected street date?!? I chose so poorly!)
Anyway, this collection was such a fun read. When I saw it in the local comic book store, I checked out the original B&W paperbacks but found the page was so much harder to read than these full color pages. Plus, these hardcovers feature a dozen or so pages of special features-early concept art, Toronto location scouting photos, even the 2-page pitch and character list. It was nice seeing how much some things changed from the early sketches/ideas & how some other quotes were left exactly the same.
I love how close the movie is to the GN (so far). It seems they did a pretty good job adapting the books to film (with the bonus joke of "seven evil exes" in the movie vs ex-boyfriends in the GN). The art is simple except for a few pages here and there that have t-shirts or posters to read. I foresee this series being a super-fast read & from what I've heard the whole thing is pretty great.
