Hugh Howey sure is imaginative, and the idea behind this story makes it fun and a quick read. The writing quality is mixed at times, but what really bothered me while reading was how illogical some of the ideas were. Human beings working in one state could not stop all rain from ever flowing over into another state, and whatever type of work they are doing, it couldn't generate enough dust to bury the entire state of Colorado (and more) beneath a mile and more of sand. That veritable ocean of sand would require much more. Of course Howey makes the story entertaining, and I will certainly read on in the series.
