This sequel to The Sunset Years of Agnes Sharp (read last month for my local library’s book club) does go a bit more into the backstory of some of the residents of Sunset Hall, which I hoped it would, but it still fell somewhat flat for me. The story primarily takes place in an eco-hotel, and I frequently mixed up the guests & staff.

It’s been translated from German, and I notice that the German reviews tend to be higher. I’m not sure if it’s a cultural divide (perhaps my sense of humor is more British than German?) or something lost in translation. It feels like it wants to be like The Thursday Murder Club but just doesn’t quite hit the mark for me in English.

CWs: It starts off with the point of view from a boa constrictor.
