Meet Shan, a young noble Blood Worker who is committing patricide when we meet her. She’s loyal, but the epitome of Pride commeth before the fall. After using her contacts as a spy, she meets Samuel, a long lost relative of the Eternals King. Together they will try to take down an empire.
The first thing that I loved about this world is that amidst the racism and classism, transphobia doesn’t appear to exist. Issac is a transgendered man who is the right hand of the king. People might take issue with him, but that’s only because of his skin colour.
The story kept me engaged, even if Shan’s character made me want to bash my head against something for most of the book.
I didn’t quite follow the world building and blood system as easily as other books, but overall I had a fun time!
