Lord of the Flies by William Golding

this was a book full of anguish, wasn’t it? i’m not going to say much but i’m super glad i was assigned this book to read. it obviously serves a main purpose of demonstrating how man and civilization intertwine, and it worked well!

the characters each represented one aspect of society, hence the allegorical nature of the book— ralph, jack, simon (i love him), piggy, roger … there were clear distinctions from the beginning, and their development (for better or worse) throughout the novel really emphasized the negative view on unlimited freedoms within a society. after all, lord of the flies *is* taught as a book that shows the descent of humankind when left without authority.

the ending was also a huge full circle moment (loved it). i can’t wait to discuss this book with people, because there’s so much to unpack. (!!)
