The Fishermen by C.P. Harris
3.0
slow-paced

This is a beautifully well written book it’s just unnecessarily loooong! It dragged on and on and felt, at times, like tediously climbing a mountain with no gear in order to reach the top.

I found that this one was a bit of a let down from the first book.  I liked the book well enough but the things I disliked etched out all enjoyment.

I didn’t really jive with either character and couldn’t really conjure up the necessary  emotions to full immerse myself because of that fact.  Both characters were incredibly self loathing, selfish, arrogant, and treated everyone outside of their orbit like crap and then made excessive excuses for their behavior. They were both s h i t t y people who deserved each other.

I understood their trauma and their reasoning but their actions and reactions didn’t justify, at least in my mind, their behavior and consistently  crappy choices.

I liked Franky and Leland but I also disliked them slightly more. The ending sort of redeemed them but not enough to get over the initial dislike.

Also, there was so much internal dialogue and martyrdom it was redundant and eye roll inducing.

Lastly, a choice when an obstacle is removed isn’t a choice…it’s simply an illusion.
