The Lemon by S.E. Boyd
5.0
This book is a work of art.
I’m admittedly a sucker for any story told - even partially - through food. The chaos and messiness and realness, all while feeling a little too far out there to hold onto, makes this wild ride beautiful. It’s weird and funny and sad and self deprecating and somehow feels so big even though the words and changing perspectives feel as if they were water that just ran through my hands. This is one of those novels where I don’t really know how to tell someone what it’s about, except to say that it’s a cast of characters coping with new realities in the wake of trauma and really, what’s more real than that? I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time.
